SNIPR001 is an orally administered, CRISPR-armed bacteriophage therapeutic developed by SNIPR Biome for the prevention of bloodstream infections caused by Escherichia coli in patients with haematological malignancies undergoing haematopoietic stem-cell transplantation. SNIPR001 is designed to selectively target and eliminate fluoroquinolone-resistant E. coli colonising the gut, thereby reducing the risk of bacterial translocation into the bloodstream in immunocompromised patients. The therapy employs CRISPR-Cas technology delivered via engineered bacteriophages to achieve species-specific bacterial targeting while sparing the broader gut microbiome. SNIPR001 has received FDA Fast Track designation for prophylaxis of bloodstream E. coli infections.
