EMBO Workshop: CRISPR-Cas: From biology to therapeutic applications

More than a decade of research on understanding and characterizing bacterial CRISPR-Cas defense systems led to the development of the powerful CRISPR-Cas genome editing technology. In recent years this tool has been employed to generate transgenic microorganisms, plants and animals for research and biotechnological applications. In addition, several clinical trials based on CRISPR-Cas genome editing technologies have started to treat patients suffering from genetic diseases. This EMBO Workshop aims to connect researchers studying the CRISPR-Cas immune defense system with researchers developing and applying genome editing tools in biomedical research and the clinics. We envision a truly interdisciplinary meeting with presentations on bacterial defense mechanisms, structural biology, functional genomics and therapeutic applications.
