Available immediately for highly motivated Ph.Ds, the position focuses on the use of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) and gene therapy for the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders at the Cherqui Lab, Dept of Pediatrics, University of California, San Deigo.
Gene therapy technologies employed in the project include CRISPR/Cas9-mediated gene editing, base and prime editing. The candidate will use human and mouse HSPCs, murine models of genetic disorders and iPSC-derived cells. The project also includes the investigation of the mechanisms involved in the rescue of neurodenegerative diseases such as Alzheimer's, by HSPC-derived microglia-like cells. Successful candidates will be part of a stimulating and collaborative scientific environment with cutting-edge instrumentation and facilities.
Qualifications Required and Preferred Academic Background
The candidate should be highly self-motivated, with strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently, has a PhD, with a strong background in neuroscience. Gene therapy and CRISPR/Cas9-mediated gene editing and stem cells are preferred skillsets. Experience with mice is required.
