Speaker
Dr. M. Silvia Roman Azcona, University of Freiburg (Germany)

Dr. Maria Silvia Roman Azcona is a postdoc in Toni Cathomen's lab at the Institute for Transfusion Medicine and Gene Therapy in the Medical Center of the University of Freiburg, Germany. Her work involves exploring new avenues to mitigate CAR-T cell exhaustion by exploring genome- and epigenome-editing approaches. During her PhD, Maria established epigenome editing of key immune checkpoints in prostate-specific CAR-T cells. In her postdoc, she is developing a standardised in vitro exhaustion assay with CD19-directed CAR-T cells and exploiting it to investigate genome-editing strategies that could prevent it.
